ICAA Convenes Policymakers and Regulators on ICHRA at NAIC Summer National Meeting
Columbus, Ohio — August 12, 2026
The Insurance Choice & Affordability Alliance (ICAA) hosted a reception for policymakers and state insurance regulators on August 11 in Columbus, Ohio, held during the National Association of Insurance Commissioners 2026 Summer National Meeting. During the meeting, regulators alongside industry leaders and state officials joined us for a candid discussion about what individual coverage health reimbursement arrangements (ICHRAs) means for consumers, employers, and the state markets.
Featured speakers included Ohio State Representative Meredith Craig, who led the effort to secure the NCOIL’s groundbreaking ICHRA legislation, state regulators from across the country and Peter Nelson, Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.
“ICHRA gives working people real choice in their coverage, and states don't have to wait to make that option available,” said Ohio State Representative Meredith Craig.
“Employers and consumers benefit when the individual market works well and people understand the options in front of them,” said Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight Peter Nelson. “Conversations like this one — with the regulators closest to these markets — are how that happens.”
“Georgia has been aggressive about finding coverage that works for small businesses,” said Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King. “Georgia Access for Business lets an employer contribute what they can afford and lets the employee choose the plan. It’s new, and we’re excited.”
The reception reflected ICAA's core purpose: increasing awareness, understanding, and informed dialogue around ICHRAs among employers, employees, policymakers, and regulators. As states consider how ICHRA fits within their own markets, ICAA serves as an independent source of information and a convener of the range of voices with a stake in the outcome.
